Greenstone Wilderness Trails operates in the Thunder Bay District in Ontario. It is run by community volunteers, and it raises funds to support projects related to canoe and hiking trails that begin in, or end in, the Greenstone region.
The principal objects of Greenstone Wilderness Trails, a not-for-profit corporation, are: * To support projects to establish and to maintain public canoe trails and public hiking trails in the Greenstone region. * To preserve and protect the environment associated with the Greenstone region’s wilderness trails. The secondary objects are: * To educate the public about the benefits of the region’s wilderness trails. * To support programs that promote public participation in the region’s wilderness trails. The Greenstone region embraces a huge territory in the boreal forest of Northern Ontario. It stretches from Lake Nipigon in the west to Klotz Lake in the east, beyond Long Lake. Some describe it as reaching as far north as the Albany River and extending south to within a few kilometres of Lake Superior. Communities in the Greenstone region include MacDiarmid, Beardmore, Jellicoe, Geraldton, Longlac, Nakina, and Caramat, and several First Nations communities. |
